Goofs and inconsistencies
Compiled by expert nitpicker, Laura Tenorio, below you will find 38 original nitpicks and inconsistencies as well as 11 closed captioning nitpicks.
1.In the beginning, when the prison officials are accessing the cryogenic storage
drawer, they slip in the access card, then tap in a code: 1433, the same as the
drawer number.
Why this is a problem:
a)If the code is the same as the drawer number, why bother having the code
as a line of security, its easy to access, just use the number.
b)The system must have one heck of a memory, to keep track of that many
numbers, since the codes would apply to every drawer in the system.
2.During the standoff in the resteraunt, while viewing the cops looks, the first signs
of “Blair Witch Project Cinematography” the camera shakes in tune with the
camera man’s heartbeat, meaning the camera was never locked down.
3.During the war of words between Maddock, Devon and Commissioner Daniels,
the Commissioner’s assistant is having a heck of a time with his facial expressions:
he starts out with a very serious look, the camera cuts away then back to him, and
he has a smirk/grimace, a couple of cuts later, he goes back to serious, and then a
couple of cuts after that, he has the same smirk/grimace, almost like he is trying to
keep from laughing.
4.While in the garage, during the time that Maddock is trying to explain why KITT’s
parts are in crates, a closer look into the crates reveals a standard steering wheel,
and a mechanical speedometer. So, Maddock not only dismantled KITT, he mixed
his parts in with other parts?
5.We knew that the writers were doing everything in their power to make Maddock
a total jerk, but the least he could have done was do his homework. He didn’t
consider KITT an asset? He didn’t even think of reusing parts? KITT was the
premier achievement of Knight Industries, as well as the Foundation, it cost more
than his Knight 4000 is costing to build, and he does not consider it an asset? It is
no wonder why the Foundation is in such trouble, he doesn’t even know his assets!
6.After the shooting, Shawn picks up the gun, and she, and her partner handle the
gun like it was a toy. So, finger printing is a lost art in this world?
7.Wow, where did Michael get all this electronics know how? In the original series,
he could barely connect wires, he needed manuals and other assistance to do most
things, and now, he is able to rebuild KITT-circuit board by circuit board?
8.Devon makes the statement that money is not the problem, that they are still
receiving research grants, then why in the hell did Maddock have to liquidate
KITT, or is he just a greedy jerk?
9.After KITT’s activation, KITT tells Michael what he really thinks of him in the
most sarcastic way possible, Devon makes the comment; “At least some things
haven’t changed.” I hope that was sarcasm on his own part, because, yes, they
have. Kitt was never that aggressively sarcastic in the original series. (who could
blame him, it is a logical evolutionary change for an AI that was treated just like a
machine)
10.When Shawn undergoes the RNA Transfer, at first, her right eye has an extremely
dark circle around it, then for the rest of the procedure, the dark circle disappears.
11.During the RNA Transfer, the Doctor instructs: “Insert probe one into optic nerve,
two and three into hemispherical memory regions” The instrument is one large needle with
a smaller needle on the side. Say the big one is probe one, the small one is probe two, where is probe three?
12.Interesting how she sees her own memories from another person’s vantage point.
13.Here comes the scientist: RNA Transfer would mean literally reading her genetic
coding, the procedure is more of a neural scan using the optic nerve input.
14.The meeting of the 2000 timeline has messed up the “President Quayle” concept.
15.The meeting of the 2000 timeline has messed up the “Philippine War of ’93
concept.
16.Why would Shawn see the gun in her face going off if she was shot in the back of
the head?
17.During the chase scene between KITT the Chevy and the cops, the dent caused
during the collision with the cop car disappears when the car goes off the dock
into the water.
18.Physics lesson: A car, weight slightly dependent on outcome, would hit the water,
and slowly sink, as the air in the engine compartment was displaced by water. In
this case, the Chevy should have sunk a lot slower than was shown. To sink as fast
as it did, the windows to the cab would have had to be open, and the tires would
have had to have been deflated, otherwise, the air in the cab and the tires would
have provided buoyant resistance, and therefore, a slower decent through the
water. That being the case, if the engine compartment flooded that fast, KITT
should have shorted out a lot sooner.
19.When talking to Maddock on a video conference in the K4000 (now KITT), after
Shawn’s old partner was shot, Maddock talks to Shawn and Michael with a phone
receiver to his ear. Why does he need the phone for a video call? That goes
backwards in technology from the old series.
20.While using ThermoGraph projection on the windshield of other objects than the road, one
hopes that the car is on auto, because the driver can’t really see, even through the
smaller videoscreen. While trailing Watts and the Mayor, Michael seems to still be driving,
despite the projection in front of him.
21.Get the feeling the car seat for the Knight 4000 was never specially adapted for
David Hasselhoff like the seat for the original KITT was? His legs are almost
hitting the bottom of the dash!
22.What does the Knight 4000 have to do to get a bar-code license plate? It is a
rather unique car, but one would think that a law enforcement agency would try to
keep the car as legal as possible by conforming to the license plate laws.
23.When the Knight 4000 hits the water after the bad bust on the van, the first view
they show shows the boat hull lifting into the air, with the rear burrowing down in
the water.
24.On another water shot, from over head, the car looks perfectly even in the water.
25.In the mall, when Shawn is shot, there should be a lot more blood, unless it was a
bone wound, at which point, she shouldn’t be able to use the arm at all, but she
does, when she grabs and blocks the blond before disabling her, then again in the
final gun scene.
26.When Michael is aiming to shoot Watts in the shoulder, asking KITT for help,
KITT says: “A little to the left,” Michael moves the weapon accordingly, then
starts moving it down before KITT tells him to.
27.In the same aiming scene, KITT tells Michael: “a hair to the right”, then according
to KITT’s VR screen, the gun is moved down. Then it switches to Michael’s point
of view, and Michael moves the gun to the right, again, and more than a hair.
28.In "A Good Day at White Rock" Michael revealed that he found fishing boring, now
he seems to be doing it for a living.
29.During the conference room scene, Mayor Abbey has magic hands, at one point, he has
his hands down, the scene flashes off to show the others in the room, then returns to him,
he has his hands in front of his mouth, and in the next shot, his hands are down again.
30.The Knight Foundation symbol used to be a singular Knight chess piece gold on
black, now it is a silhouetted Knight chess piece head in a yin/yang format.
31.When KITT comes back to life, what brings him back to life all of a sudden?
He was dormant one moment, then suddenly, his systems come back to life,
without a single switch being flipped? Michael seemed surprised he was on, so it was not
Michael’s actions that caused this.
32.Maddock said that James Doohan starred in the original series and all 10 of the Star Trek
movies: not true. (take into account this was 1991)
a) there have been only 9 movies
b) Scotty was only in 7 of them.
33.KITT now has a hard drive? One that is capable of crashing nonetheless, big surprise
there, since that is what hard drives do when jolted.
34.During the jumpstart, the cop didn’t notice all the extra components that had to be under
the Chevy’s hood?
35.Changed Premise: KITT was originally integrated into a Pontiac Trans Am to look like,
and meld with all the other cars on the street, so that he wouldn’t stand out, and could be
treated normally. KIFT does not look like every other car on the street.
36.During the scene where Michael is asking for help from KITT to target Watts, Watts
didn’t hear KITT’s subtle, but still audible targeting instructions?
37.At the end, in the prison parking lot when KITT does a 360 spin, look closely at the right
front tire, and you will see that it is bent inward at the top, indicating that the axle was
broken during the spin.
38.If you watch the movie carefully, you will notice that the writer took great strides to rename every function the
original KITT had.
39.In the scene where Devon and Michael are talking in Michael's cabin, the level of their ice-tea varies, even though neither of them even touched it during their conversation.
*Nitpick submitted by Killer KITT
40.In the final chase scene with the police cars and vans, when Watts' cops fire off an RPG at a police car, the car that explodes is definitely nota Chevy Beretta, but appears to be an old Dodge Shadow, painted to look like one of the Beretta cruisers.

Closed Captioning Nitpicks
Normally, Closed Captioning Nitpicks are not a legitimate form of nitpicking, because in
many cases, the typist “loses” words or lines by not hearing them right, if they are doing it
“on air”, if the typist does it off the script, then sometimes the actors ad lib their lines.
But there is one area that does attract a nitpicker’s eye: where the line was changed either
by the actor or the writers after the it was shot on tape, and the closed captioning typist
was never notified. These lines either change the premise of the scene, or are so
completely different from what is seen on closed captioning, that the line was reinvented.
