KNIGHT RIDER 2000
Movie for TV - Prod. #82137
David Hasselhoff returns as Michael Knight in the year 2000 to join forces with K.I.T.T.
4000 -- the talking, high-tech car. He and a former policewoman do batthe with a deadly
ring of gun runnder and cops gone bad, on MCA TV International's action adventure movie
entitled "Knight Rider 2000." The script was written by Rob Hedden and directed by Alan J. Levi.
It is the year 2000 and the city has banned handgun use by the police, who instead carry
ultrasound weapons that freeze perpetrators. However, police are being shot by handguns
which were supposedly turned in to be melted down for scrap. At the same time, the Knight
Foundation is attempting to sell the city on the use of freelance officers who could use
super intelligent vehicles that could think and talk. But the project is behind schedule,
and the city demands a prototype in thirty days. Michael Knight has been retired for 10
years from the Knight Foundation when his old boss Devon calls for help. Michael agrees,
on one condition: his old vehicle K.I.T.T., the talking computerized car, will be reactivated.
Unfortunately, Russ Maddock, Devon's boss, had decided that K.I.T.T. was outdated and sold
parts of the car off for scrap. But Michael is able to located most of the components
except one microchip and builds K.I.T.T. into his pristine 1957 Chevy Bel Air. Michael
also gets a new partner, Shawn McCormick, a former policewoman who was shot with one of the
handguns. Following a delicate operation wherein a memory chip was implanted in her brain,
Shawn gets a job at the Knight Foundation and vows to hunt down her attacker. Ironically
the missing part of K.I.T.T. is the memory chip which was implanted in Shawn's brain.
Meanwhile, Shawn McCormick's ex-partner Officer Kurt Miller, and co workers Officers Marla
Hedges, and Justin Strand, have joined the group working with Tommy Watts, who is in charge
of the profitable gun running operation. Shawn agrees to connect herself to K.I.T.T.'s
C.P.U. When a strong electrical current jolts the microchip in her brain, she is able to
recall that it was Watts who shot her in the face. Watts had been given early parole from
his cryogenic prison. Michael, Shawn, and K.I.T.T. are pursued by several police cars.
They end the chase by crashing through a barrier, off the dock and into the sea. The
passenger compartment is air tight, giving Michael and Shawn 25 minutes of oxygen. K.I.T.T.
manages to bid goodbye to Michael before losing his voice transmission. Watts assumes that
Michael and Shawn are dead.
Meanwhile at the Foundation, Devon is knocked unconscious, and later while in the intensive
care unit, Watts injects a serum into the I.V. line, ending Devon's life. Michael is
devastated by Devon's death and walks away from the case. Weeks pass before Michael returns
to the Foundation to implant K.I.T.T. into the new red, space-age Knight 4000 vehicle.
Michael makes Commissioner Ruth Daniels aware of the fact that Watts was prematurely
released from prison by Deputy Mayor Harold Abbey. They track Watts and Abbey riding in
a limo. Using the 4000's computerized thermal window, Michael has K.I.T.T. record the
conversation wherein Abbey implicates himself in the gun running operation. Commissioner
Daniels sets up a police blockade and with the 4000's aid breaks into a warehouse.
Unfortunately, there is no sign of Watts or the guns. K.I.T.T. warns them of a cluster of
police units, containing weapons, heading across down. To avoid the traffic, the 4000
hydrofoils down to the Rivercenter Mall. Michael and Shawn interrupt Watts' meeting with
the buyer, and a shoot-out ensues. They bring down Hedges and Strand, and with K.I.T.T.'s
help, Michael is able to disarm Watts. While Shawn handcuffs Watts, K.I.T.T. warns Michael
that the man is still armed. Watts is able to pull his gun and aims it at Shawn's head, but
Michael with his ultrasound point-blank-buzz knocks Watts over the railing -- dead.
Michael bids goodbye to Russ Maddcok, Shawn, and K.I.T.T. He is finally going to retire for
the right reasons -- to go fishing and to fix up his Chevy Bel Air.
